Undergraduate Programs
International & Area Studies Undergraduate Programs
In each of the International & Area Studies' undergraduate programs, students take courses from faculty in diverse disciplines and take an interdisciplinary approach to studying either a global theme or region. Our students are also encouraged to pursue studies outside of the classroom: through distance-learning formats, global internships, study abroad, research, and volunteering in the Salt Lake international community.
Diplomacy
The Diplomacy major prepares students to work on some of the most consequential issues of the present. The field of Diplomacy is wide-ranging and interdisciplinary. Wherever competing interests and perspectives collide, the craft of diplomacy is critical. This major combines the study of the structural causes of conflict with the practice of real-world negotiation and consensus-building. It emphasizes technical, cultural, and communicational competencies alike.
International Studies
The International Studies major uses the wide-ranging resources at the University of Utah to prepare students to live and work in the increasingly global world of the 21st century. The interdisciplinary methods, language study, and direct international experience make it an inviting major alone or in combination with other programs of study available at the University.
Latin American Studies
The Latin American Studies major is designed to provide students with critical language and cultural skills that serve as the foundation for careers in public service, business, humanitarian work, law, and health care, among others, in Latin America and with Latino populations at home.
Middle East Studies
The Middle East Studies degree is designed to provide students with language and cultural competence in the region of the Middle East that can become the foundation for careers in public affairs, public service, business, and many other fields.
Asian Studies
The Asian Studies major is designed to provide students with language and cultural competence in a region of Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Russia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia).
