Learning Abroad Scholarships
International Studies - Dee Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship
Through a generous gift from the Lawrence T. and Janet T. Dee Foundation, the International Studies Program and the Department of World Languages and Cultures are able offer a limited number of scholarships for declared majors to support participation in approved study abroad programs (Hinckley global internships are not currently eligible for support). These funds can be used to cover study abroad fees and tuition.

Middle East Studies Summer Scholarship
The Middle East Center will award up to three scholarships of $1500 each for students participating in a study abroad program or Hinckley global internship in the Middle East. The scholarship is available only for declared majors and minors in Middle East Studies.

Hinckley Institute Scholarships
The Hinckley Institute offers scholarships, varying from $400 - $4,000 for students completing global internships.
National Scholarships for Study Abroad

Department Scholarships for Study Abroad
Several University of Utah study abroad programs have their own specified scholarships--including the Middle East Studies' program and the Global Health programs.
FEA is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships.
Gilman International Scholarship
This scholarship provides funds for undergraduate students who have qualified for the Pell Grant and who wish to continue their language studies overseas. The purpose of the program is to motivate and support foreign language majors who may not otherwise have the financial resources to study abroad.
The Congress-Bundestag Exchange for Young Professionals
CBYX is a a fellowship which annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals, between the ages of 18½–24, the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.
Boren Awards for International Study
Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. The scholarship funds focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security.
Critical Language Scholarship Program
A program of the U.S. Department of State, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical foreign languages.
The Journalism in the Era of Disinformation Fellowship (JED)
The Journalism in the Era of Disinformation Fellowship (JED) Fellowship gives student journalists from the United States and Germany the opportunity to meet their peers and learn about the role that disinformation plays in political coverage in both countries.
Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship
FLAS Scholarships are federally funded academic scholarships designed to provide support and funding to students studying the critical languages and cultures of Asia and Latin America. Students can apply for a fellowship for the academic year or for the summer.

Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Bridging Scholarships in Japan
The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan.
Center for Arabic Study Abroad
CASA offers advanced level training in Arabic language and culture to qualified American students at The American University in Cairo and Qasid Arabic Institute in Amman. Applicants to the various CASA programs must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and should have a minimum of 3 years of formal instruction in Arabic prior to joining CASA.
The Qasid Institute for Arabic has quietly developed a reputation as one of the leading centers in the Middle East for Arabic language learning. They offer intensive Arabic language programming throughout the year.
SALAM Study Abroad Scholarship
The Summer Arabic Language and Media (SALAM) program is a fully-funded intensive Arabic language scholarship. This intensive Arabic language program will allow students to gain a deeper knowledge of Arabic, while becoming familiar with Omani history and culture.
DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships
This scholarship is suited for highly qualified undergraduate students who are interested in language study, research, or an internship in Germany. The goal of this program is to support study abroad in Germany and at German universities.
This scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Army ROTC, and provides funding for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in one of the Army’s designated critical need languages. To be eligible for the program, students must be enrolled in the ROTC, with the intention of completing a term of service as an enlisted officer in the U.S. Army.
The Blakemore Foundation for Asian Language Study
Since 1990, the Blakemore Foundation has awarded over $17 million in grants to college graduates and young professionals for an academic year abroad in full-time intensive language study.
Cultural Vistas Fellows will enrich their academic learning through professional internship and immersion experiences focused on civic engagement and youth involvement through eight-week summer internships in Argentina, Germany, and Hong Kong.
